The Southern California Association of Governments has been providing technical assistance to local governments, transit agencies and developers in its six-county region to build capacity to compete in the statewide Affordable Housing Sustainable Communities (AHSC) grant program.
In Rounds 1, 2 and 3 of the AHSC program, there were 26 projects awarded within the SCAG region—in Orange, Riverside, and Los Angeles counties—totaling over $212 million in funding. These 26 projects will bring an additional 2,373 units of affordable housing to the region in addition to improvements to the surrounding transit, bicycle, and pedestrian infrastructure.
Given Southern California's current housing affordability crisis, the AHSC program is one of the few state funding opportunities to address this issue. With this website, SCAG hopes to familiarize potential applicants with the requirements of the program and highlight strategies to have more successful proposals from Southern California.
